Our History

In the mid 1970's, a group of parents and individuals in the Peterborough area were becoming increasingly concerned over the lack of accessible housing and support services for people with physical disabilities. In 1978, Kawartha Participation Projects (KPP) was established with a mandate to provide housing and support services to people with disabilities in the counties of Haliburton, Northumberland, Peterborough and The City of Kawartha Lakes. Since its incorporation in 1980, Kawartha Participation Projects has arranged and provided the following facilities and services:
  • 1983 Established St. Paul's House, Lindsay which housed six individuals. St Paul's House closed in March 2010
  • 1983 Four apartments at Auburn Village, Peterborough
  • 1984 Three apartments at St. Giles, Peterborough and Collison House, Peterborough which housed three individuals and was closed in1993.
  • 1986 Outreach service to fifty adults in their own homes throughout the four county area.
  • 1988 Ten apartments at St. John's Centre, Peterborough.
  • 1993 Seventy-one rent-geared-to-income units, eighteen apartments modified for people with disabilities, in the integrated supportive housing community of Towerhill Village, Peterborough.
  • 1998 Established Victoria Supportive Housing - eleven individuals.
  • 2008 Established Myrtle Terrace in Partnership with Community Living Peterborough
  • 2009 St. Peter's Supportive Housing opened July 2009, 33 supported units and 5 non-supported units in downtown Peterborough
